Sanchez-Craig, M.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1984
Assessed a cognitive-behavioral program with a goal of either abstinence (AB) or controlled drinking (CD) with early-stage problem drinkers (N=70). Results of a two-year follow up indicated that most CD clients achieved moderation of alcohol use and that most AB clients failed to abstain but nonetheless moderated their drinking. (LLL)

Examined attitudes toward alcohol use and abuse, drinking norms, and treatment of alcoholism among a representative sample of adults (N=933). Results indicated public concern about alcohol abuse and a desire to help, definite norms maintained against heavy drinking and drunkeness, and a belief in the value of treatment demonstrated.
