Assessing Institutional Factors That Impact First-Generation Community College Student Success: A Practitioner Perspective
Flavio Medina-Martin
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D./HE Dissertation, Azusa Pacific University
The goal of this action research was to bring awareness of the first-generation community college identity and acknowledge that this identity has many layers. It is important community colleges across the state use the information provided in this action research to be well-informed on how to better support first-generation students. This dissertation and action research was compiled with information and feedback from practitioners throughout the state, which demonstrated a need for mentoring opportunities for first-generation community college students. Community college campuses from northern, central, and southern California lent their voices and experiences to this action research. There is hope this action research will encourage practitioners to continue to do the important work in which they are involved and to empower them to enhance their advocacy for first-generation community college students.
