Beginning Teacher Knowledge of Education in the Elementary School: A Survey of California Educators. The Praxis Series: Professional Assessments for Beginning Teachers.
Reynolds, Anne; Rosenfeld, Michael
This report presents the results of a study in which one of the job analysis surveys for the Praxis Series: Professional Assessments for the Beginning Teacher was administered to teachers and teacher educators in California. The purpose of this special administration was to determine if the multidisciplinary content in the test form (Form 1 of Education in the Elementary School) was determined to be important for newly licensed California elementary school teachers. Responses were received from 125 teachers and 57 teacher educators. Frequency distributions across background information categories, mean importance ratings by relevant subgroup, and correlations of mean importance ratings within subgroups were determined. Forty-two knowledge statements (29% of the inventory) were rated below the designated cut point, but the remaining 103 were considered appropriate for the development of test specifications. Appendixes present the instrument and other forms used in the study and some supplemental information. (Contains six tables and five references.) (SLD)
