Improving the School Climate. Operations Notebook 19.
Clark, Frank J.
This handbook on improving school climate is written for school administrators interested in doing a better job for students, staff, and parents. More than 100 ideas and methods on what to do to improve the climate in individual schools are included--ideas that can be adapted to large or small schools, wealthy or low income districts, and districts with increasing or decreasing enrollments. The author states that climate is composed of program determinants, process determinants, and material determinants. Emphasizing the importance of leader behavior in determining school climate, he includes two questionnaires, one intended to describe leadership behavior and the other intended to describe school climate. Personal suggestions from California school administrators, as well as descriptions of climate improvement programs in selected California schools, are included. (Author/DS)
