This publication is concerned with the number of pupils, teachers, and schools in California and the expenditures of public funds to educate the 4.4 million children attending schools in the state. The data are presented in the form of tables. The first section concerns school district type, average daily attendance, and participation and costs of school lunch and breakfast programs. Tables concerning teachers and pupils are the subject of the second section with data on teacher distribution, salaries, enrollment figures, and class size. The third section presents information about the state-published textbooks, sources of school support, disparities in assessed valuations among districts, school elections, and tax rates. The final section presents dollar amounts for the several objects of expenditure, the amount per unit of average daily attendance, and percent of total expenditures each amount represents.
