Teacher Perceptions of Non-Compliance in Rural Primary Schools in New South Wales
Reynolds, Kim; Stephenson, Jennifer; Beaman, Robyn
Education in Rural Australia, v21 n2 p105-124 2011
In this study, teachers from primary schools in a rural district of New South Wales were surveyed about their views on non-compliant behaviour, its frequency in the classroom and its effect on classroom management. Teachers generally agreed on definitions of moderate to serious non-compliant behaviours but some teachers rated minor non-compliant behaviours as compliant. Minor non-compliant behaviour was found to be the most frequently occurring behaviour in classrooms and teachers reported needing most support in its management. The study also examines the effect of non-compliant behaviour on composite classes, common in rural schools, and the use and acceptability of different forms of support delivery. (Contains 6 tables.)
