Multiage Classes: What Research Tells Us about Their Suitability for Rural Schools.
Lloyd, Linley
Education in Rural Australia, v12 n2 p1-14 2002
Research on classes that are mixed age by choice, not merely multigraded, has found positive effects on student achievement, mental health, social development, and liking for school. Multiage classes generally have more parent support, but teacher continuity is also necessary for success. Implications and challenges for Australia's rural schools are discussed regarding multiage teaching methods, teacher turnover, and need for a strong support network. (Contains 76 references.) (TD)
