There are five papers in this collection from the Division of Regional Activities: (1) "Communication and Information in Contemporary African Society" (Bimpe Aboyade), which discusses how libraries can make themselves relevant to other institutions concerned with information transfer; (2) "Libraries and Rural Development: Village Reading Rooms in Botswana" (H. Kay Raseroka), which explores how village reading rooms in Botswana can contribute to rural development; (3) "An Evaluation of a CD-ROM System: Experience of a Compact Cambridge MEDLINE in a Chinese Medical College Library" (Ellen Fan Liu), which finds the CD-ROM system a viable alternative to online or manual searching for students; (4) "Value of Information: Modernization and Economic Problems of Scientific and Technical Libraries with Special Reference to India" (Inder Vir Malhan), which evaluates current and future roles of such libraries, and recommends that library education programs emphasize management in their curricula; and (5) "Impact of Technology on Information Users" (Spanish and English versions; Estela Morales), which assesses the impacts of technology in terms of national development, social class, and users' age and work activity.
