As seen in the previous section (EJ1039315) writing about teaching practice is more than simply reporting about what was done and in what order. When teachers zoom in closely to highlight the feel and tone of one particular classroom moment, lesson, or project, they create a microcosm in which many aspects of the individual teaching values, approaches, and techniques can be viewed within the context of the actual work of teaching. ALT/space online is, in part, structured around the aesthetic of blog writing with a reduced word limit (approximately seven hundred to eight hundred words per post) compared to the length of standard magazine or journal articles. There are times, however, when there is an issue, idea, or situation to discuss that needs a wider lens. In this section the authors have two examples of zoomed out stories, in both length and treatment of the subject matter as compared to the writing in the first section (EJ1039315). In the case of Ryan Conarro's "Like a River", the reader is presented with a culturally complicated situation which needed extra time and space, both of which afforded a needed nuanced treatment. In "Restorative Practices: Community Arts Integration", Michael Schwartz shares a theoretical framework he created that guides his work, but more concrete examples were needed to flush out and fully illustrate the powerful uses and applications of his ideas.
