Alabama State Dept. of Education, Montgomery.
This bulletin prescribes the minimum course content for all physical education programs in the public schools of Alabama and is the basis from which physical education programs are developed by local education agencies. The document contains the following sections: (1) curriculum trends in physical education; (2) a conceptual framework for the K-12 physical education program; (3) the minimum required content for physical education programs for grades K-2, 3-6, 7-8, and the required course taken in grade 9 or 10; (4) elective courses in physical education; (5) the federal and state laws and the Alabama State Board of Education resolutions related to physical education; and (6) characteristics of an effective physical education program. In the section on minimum required content, the physical conditioning and sports skills for each grade level are outlined and expected student outcomes are detailed. Appendixes include a glossary of terms; time requirements for subject areas; and notes on study habits, homework, and student responsibility. (JD)
