Health Curriculum Guide. Grade 6. Bulletin 1988, No. 54.
Alabama State Dept. of Education, Montgomery.
This curriculum guide supplements the Alabama "Health Education Course of Study," which offers a comprehensive planned sequential curriculum for grades K-12. The largest section of the guide consists of classroom activities which are tied to specific student outcomes. A list of materials needed to carry out the activities is provided. The activities are organized into units, each of which begins with "notes to the teacher" that identify topics covered in the unit and convey information important for carrying out the activities. A list of "outcomes" summarizes the requirements from the Alabama "Health Education Course of Study" and provides guidance for additional activities which may need to be written. The final section contains teaching materials which are referenced in the activities and are essential to implementing the activities. The guide is organized under the general theme of decision making. The topics are: developing a positive self-concept and learning to make responsible decisions; making decisions about myself on body systems, personal nutrition, dental health, mental health, and disease; making decisions about family and friends (family relationships, peer relationships, and drug abuse); and making decisions about society (the environment, safety, health information, services, and products, energy conservation, and worldwide availability of food).
