Home Economics. Bulletin, 1918, No. 50
Calvin, Henrietta W.; Lyford, Carrie Alberta
Bureau of Education, Department of the Interior
Progress in home economics education has been marked in recent years. To the normal rapid increase in the number of high schools offering courses, the extension of systematic training in home making into the lower grades, the establishment of new courses in liberal arts colleges, and the more adequate support of departments previously organized has come increased impetus due to Federal and State legislation and to the recognition by war committees of their need of specially trained home economics women. The following topics are covered in this bulletin as they relate to home economics: (1) Home economics in the public schools; (2) State supervision of home economics; (3) County supervision of home economics; (4) State normal schools; (5) Colored schools; (6) Home economics in colleges and universities; (7) Effect of war on college courses; (8) Practice homes; (9) Practical application of food courses in the management of lunchrooms, cafeterias, etc.; (10) Smith-Lever extension work; (11) New phases of home economics; (12) Child welfare courses; (13) Newly established and reorganized departments; (14) Surveys; (15) Organization of women interested in home economics education; (16) Home economics and national service; and (17) Legislation relating to home economics.
