The Impact of Hill Reading Achievement Program with Students with Disabilities in First through Third Grade
Templeton, Patrice Danielle
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wingate University
No Child Left Behind Act created a paradigm shift in the education field for all students including students with disabilities. The act impacted students with disabilities because the expectation of education changed in many areas. The expectation of highly qualified teachers teaching utilizing research based strategies and the requirement of assessing students included students with special needs more than in the past. This shift caused many schools and districts to begin teaching direct instruction program. The researcher studied the impact of one particular scientifically researched-based program, Hill Reading Achievement Program (HillRAP) with students with disabilities. The study compares students with disabilities that received instruction with HillRAP compared to students with disabilities who did not receive instruction with HillRAP. The purpose of the study was to determine the impact of growth in reading comprehension between two groups: students with disabilities who received direct instruction compared to students with disabilities that did not receive direct instruction using HillRAP.
