Recommendations are made for the correction and collection of Veterans Administration overpayments of educational benefits. They include: improved compliance surveying; updates on overpayments balance reports to the states; identification of schools liable for overpayments; notification of veterans of their obligation to report training status changes; testing of automated monitoring of status changes; decreased special payments; increased and monitored stoppayments; improved efficiency of cash collection letter and followup schedule; revision of eligibility letters; improvement of information on overpayment collection costs; increased use of on-campus resources to identify and correct overpayments; faster collection action on special payments resulting in overpayment.
