Career Education Program in Social Studies. Final Report.
Social Science Education Consortium, Inc., Boulder, CO.
The Career Education program in Social Studies was designed to achieve two major goals; (1) to assist school districts in developing a career education program that would be more meaningful to students and would help them make better, more informed decisions about life in the world of work; and (2) to assist teachers and curriculum decision makers in making career education an integral part of their social studies program. To accomplish these goals, teacher resource materials were developed, nationwide workshops were conducted, and a significant dissemination effort was carried out. Several on-going resource and curriculum development projects and evaluation activities were initiated. Most of the products were reviewed or field tested and revised based on that feedback. In addition, the four workshops were evaluated by an independent evaluator. Among the findings were that the workshops (1) contributed to significant gains in understanding of the philosophy and audience of career education, and (2) increased the participants' confidence about infusing career education in the schools of their community. (The workshop final report and evaluation instrument are appended.) (Author/BM)
