Entertainment Technology Internships in Community Colleges: A Behind the Scenes Case Study
Brooke M. Mailhiot
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Drexel University
"Classroom to Career" is an accredited experiential learning method that community college students can use to build their career paths. Experiential learning curriculum courses provide students with the exposure they need to shift from undergraduate instruction and enhance their learning and employment outcomes to gain an Associate of Applied Science (AAS). In this study, Rowan College at Burlington County AAS graduates shared their perspectives on the facets of work-integrated learning. The participants learned about entertainment technology and gained hands-on, technical, authentic, real-world production experience during their experiential coursework in their academic field. The purpose of this case study research was to gain a deeper understanding of the process and value of experiential learning to an academic curriculum. The participating AAS graduates shared their perspectives on the preparatory practice and real-world applications of experiential learning and provided data in their narratives. This research had significance because it showed how internship fieldwork enables students to access credible learning resources and benefit from the firsthand knowledge acquired through experiential learning via internships with organizations and professionals.
