Relationships between Students' Perceptions, Preferences, and Satisfaction of Online and Traditional Courses
Cervera-Saenz, Brenda Alicia
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
Research has shown different participant perceptions, preferences, and satisfaction levels regarding several modes of instruction. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to see to what degree a relationship exists between community college students' perceptions, preferences, and satisfaction in an online asynchronous and a traditional Spanish course in a West Texas District. Theory of andragogy and social constructivism learning theory are the theoretical foundations that provide the overarching themes of this study because both theories revolve around learners and their perspectives. The Distance Educational Learning Environment Survey (DELES) was successfully completed by 81 student participants that took a Spanish course in an online asynchronous and traditional mode of instruction. The data analysis helped the researcher answer seven research questions with two hypotheses each. Pearson's r was used to analyze the relationships. All null hypotheses for research questions 1-7 were rejected because they are large (r > 0.5) significant relationships between variables (p < 0.001). Future research and practice were recommended to continue analyzing students' perceptions, preferences, and satisfaction in different modes of instruction and different courses.
