ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Delaware Valley University
This mixed methods study was a concurrent exploratory study to examine the differences in perceptions of career and technical education (CTE) among CTE and Non CTE (N-CTE) stakeholders based on their individual experiences. These stakeholders (i.e., teachers, administrators, counselors, parents, former students, and business and industry partners) of career and technical education were from four school districts in a county in northeastern Pennsylvania. From the four school districts, there were five high schools and one CTE school represented among the sample. The study's researcher used a convenience sample of stakeholders. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS for descriptive and inferential statistics. Both groups' perceptions of CTE on overall school experience are positive and both groups felt that CTE was practical, valuable, important, interesting, and favorable. On the perception of value of CTE to students, both groups thought that CTE was helpful, purposeful and the least favorable ratings were definite and attractive. Both groups perception on the value of CTE to business and industry were essential and rewarding. On the perception of rigor both groups thought that CTE had rigor. Recommendations for further research include a qualitative study looking at individualized perceptions rather than overall perceptions as well as finding reasons how to increase enrollment in CTE courses and why more high school students are not enrolling in CTE courses and economy and labor shortage post COVID.
