The Teacher Professional Lifecycle Framework
Shepherd, Margaret
Teaching Science, v68 n2 p8-9 Jun 2022
In 2022, an ASTA working group researched the career life cycle of a science teacher from preservice to retirement in order to better support professional learning programs for its members. The project resulted in the production of a framework showing the relationships between individual teacher contexts in their personal and workplace life and the various different levels of expertise or engagement. While the framework shows a non-linear pattern throughout the career journey, it does provide a way for professional development providers to cater to the various needs of P-12 STEM/science teachers.
