Jamantha Williams Watson
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trident University International
The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the relationship between social skills and dramatic arts. In an effort to explore and eventually eradicate the negative problems plaguing today's generation, this study sought to question youth who may have grappled with social and communicative problems during their matriculation in college, and how their participation in the dramatic arts, whether while in a drama class, or during the participation of a dramatic production, had been improved. In order to facilitate their feedback on the subject, virtual interviews and surveys were conducted with college students. The findings indicated that college students did, indeed demonstrate an overall improvement in their self-esteem, self-confidence and self-development. Based on the interview responses, a guide was created to assist other professors and teachers of college students. Additionally, the findings of this research may offer professors a way to better understand and communicate with students. The findings of this research indicated that the dramatic and theatrical arts have a positive effect on increasing the self-esteem and self-confidence of college students.
