Comparison of Teacher Candidates' Self-Efficacy in Traditional and Professional Development School Student Teaching Experiences
Parrott, Amanda Eve
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Concordia University Chicago
Bandura (1997) developed the theory of self-efficacy as the confidence a person has to successfully complete a task. The following research focused on teacher candidates who were completing their student teaching in Spring 2018 at a medium midwestern university and their self-efficacy to be a classroom teacher. Teacher candidates who participated in this study were surveyed twice during their student teaching experience: at the beginning and at the end of student teaching. Data collected from these surveys were analyzed to see if self-efficacy of a teacher candidate changed during student teaching, if a relationship between type of student teaching (traditional versus Professional Development School) and self-efficacy existed, and if a relationship between program majors (early childhood, elementary, and middle level) and self-efficacy existed.
