Take an Artistic Spin with Pinwheels
Speelman, Melissa
Arts & Activities, v152 n1 p30-31 Sep 2012
A great start for the semester, this pinwheel project provides a good dose of art history, and a variety of media and techniques. It also teaches students how to clean up and store things properly. Five artists are introduced, each with a different art medium and technique. In this activity, students are expected to: (1) study works by five famous artists: Bridget Riley, Georgia O'Keeffe Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian and Jackson Pollock; (2) compare multiple purposes for creating works of art; (3) learn various artistic techniques: oil-pastel blending techniques (van Gogh); graded and variegated washes with watercolor (O'Keeffe); spattering (Pollock); and (4) Discuss color theory and color schemes.
