Meeting the Needs of Gifted Children in a Full-Day Kindergarten Program
Provenzano, Pamela
Understanding Our Gifted, v16 n1 p6-8 Fall 2003
Gifted children display unique depths of thought, understanding, and curiosity. They think critically and easily utilize information they have assimilated in order to understand new experiences. They are the ones who think of something no one else has thought of, have unique perspectives, or can grasp concepts with little effort. They are the ones who are always asking questions, always seeking knowledge, just because they want to learn; their need to know is intrinsic. Gifted children truly pursue knowledge for the love and curiosity of learning. They won't merely perform. Getting the grade is not as important as simply knowing. Gifted children may have intensities that drive them--intensities that must be recognized and nurtured. In this article, the author discusses the benefits of combining the needs of gifted children with a full-day kindergarten program.
