Kindergarten Training Schools. Bulletin, 1916, No. 5
Bureau of Education, Department of the Interior
The large increase in the number of kindergartens in the United States and the revival of interest in the kindergarten in all parts of the country have given rise to a demand for information about schools for the preparation of kindergarten teachers and the standards and courses of study in these schools. The schools themselves ask for honest intelligent criticism of their work and for suggestions for improving it. This report, which explores these issues, has been prepared through the cooperation of the National Kindergarten Association and a committee of the International Kindergarten Union, cooperating with the kindergarten division of the Bureau of Education. Its contents cover: (1) Kindergarten training in retrospect and prospect (Nina C. Vandewalker); (2) Statistics of kindergarten training schools, 1912-13; (3) Suggested two-year kindergarten course; and (4) Ideals in kindergarten training. (Contains 7 tables and 3 footnotes.)
