Baker, Katherine; Morrison, Scott A.; Cisneros Perez, Mirella F.
Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12, v115 n7 p476-482 Jul 2022
Being outdoors encourages content creativity, inclusion of new ideas and perspectives, student voice and agency, authentic contextualization, and connection to nature. In this article, the authors share why integrating mathematics and nature is beneficial for both students and teachers, provide an example of a middle-grades lesson taught outside, and highlight the five core routines that can be used to plan any lesson beyond the classroom.
