Dr. Willy A. Renandya is a widely published language teacher educator and TESOL specialist with a particular interest in professional educator development, TESOL pedagogy, and extensive reading and listening. For the past 20 years his work has revolved around working with pre-service and in-service English teaching professionals in the Asian region, including Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Dr. Renandya is a Senior Lecturer currently teaching applied linguistics courses in the English Language and Literature department at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Prior to working at NIE, he was Head of the Language and Research department at SEAMEO RELC. He has taught widely throughout the region including in Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Dr. Renandya regularly gives invited presentations at local, regional, and international conferences, and conducts practical workshops and seminars in schools and universities. In this interview he responds to questions regarding the challenges he and other non-native English speaking teachers and educators have faced.
