Supporting faculty and students in crisis response on higher education campuses is of growing importance in light of the rising mental health issues that students are experiencing. The focus of this dissertation is to gain an understanding of the experiences of counselor educators due to their unique identities: those of a counselor and educator. The format is a 3-style article dissertation with the first 2 articles being data driven (1 quantitative and 1 qualitative study) and the third article is a conceptual piece. Manuscript 1 focuses on moral injury and burnout for those who identify as a counselor in higher education. Data was collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, and a multiple regression model. Manuscript 2 is an interpretive phenomenological analysis focused on the lived experiences of counselor educators and crisis response in higher education. Upon completion of the data analysis, five themes emerged along with subthemes to reflect an understanding of participant experiences. Finally, manuscript 3 is a conceptual piece in the form of a classroom lesson that is aimed to support training doctoral level counselor education students in preparing for their role as educators and campus crisis. The product is a case scenario activity along with content to support faculty in teaching the materials to students. Each manuscript consists of a summary of the findings, conclusion, and recommendations for the future. Finally, chapter 5 is a general conclusion of the research presented through the manuscripts and overall takeaways.
