Jason is a 17-year-old high school senior currently classified as a student who is Other Health Impaired due to anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and germ phobia (an intense fear of something that poses little actual threat--but can cause severe anxiety or a full panic attack). He also has a severe learning disability in reading. Jason is very concerned that his disability remains confidential and refuses to utilize a resource room or his special education teacher because he is afraid that other students will know that he has special needs. Therefore, whenever his special education teacher or the interviewer (Cara Felski-Smith, his school psychologist) wants to talk with Jason, they do so to avoid calling attention to his special needs. This article describes how Life Space Crisis Intervention helped Jason correct his distorted view of reality and provided him with tools for future success.
