A Comparative Study of Supervision Satisfaction and School Counseling Program Implementation

This quantitative study utilized a causal-comparative design to explore if there was a predictive relationship between school counselors' supervision satisfaction and program implementation. The sample (N=77) included school counselors from the United States who are licensed/certified, currently employed full-time in a public-school setting, have been employed for 2 years or more, and have worked with the same supervisor for at least one year. The instruments used to measure supervision satisfaction and program implementation were the Supervisory Working Alliance Inventory and the School Counseling Program Implementation Survey. A linear regression model was used to determine that supervision satisfaction can significantly predict comprehensive school counseling program implementation. The study also examined the association between elementary (N=37), middle (N=21), and high school (N=19) grade levels and supervision satisfaction and type of supervision, administrative (N=35) and clinical (N=42), and supervision satisfaction. It was discovered using multiple linear regression that there was no significant predictive relationship between either type of supervision or grade level and supervision satisfaction. The results from this research study add to the growing research surrounding supervision for school counselors. Future research recommendations are suggested to further investigate the relationship between supervision and school counseling program implementation.
