The Effects of a Time Management Technique on the Completion and Submission of High School Online Coursework

Distance learning has grown in popularity due to convenience and flexibility (Means, Toyama, Murphy, Baki, & Jones, 2010). Using a modified time management technique and the model of improvement framework, the purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of the time management technique on the completion and submission of online coursework. High School students at a suburban school were assigned a time management technique while working through online assignments in an in-school learning environment. Students used the time management technique as an in-person intervention to facilitate the completion and submission of online assignments. The study found statistically significant results for students' assignment completion rates. Overall, the After mean (3.82) showed that participants submitted fewer assignments after the intervention was implemented. Statistically, it had an adverse effect on the student population. However, it appears that the time management intervention worked for some individual students. The implications of the study and suggestions for future research are provided.
