This research study investigates the impact of the rapid transition from paper-based to online administration of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams on student performance in a South Texas school district. The transition, mandated by House Bill 3261, presented Texas public schools with a tight timeline for adapting to this new testing format. Additionally, the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of the Spring 2020 STAAR exams, leaving schools with only two academic years to make the transition. The study focuses on assessing the reading and math STAAR exam results for sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students during the Spring 2022 and Spring 2023 test administrations. It aims to identify whether there were any significant differences in student scores as a result of the shift from paper-based to online testing.
