Student-Led Conferences and Their Purposes, Structure, and Content: A Multiple Case Study Approach
Hoeppner, Judith T.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The University of Wisconsin - Madison
This research identifies the purposes, structure, and content of student-led conferences using a case study approach of three fourth grade classrooms with different demographics located in various counties of a mid-western state. The purposes of student-led conferences are presented from perspectives of teachers, students, and parents. The preparation, length of each conference, number of conferences taking place at one time, frequency of the conferences, degree of involvement by each participant and who directed the conference, location of the conferences, and calendar coordination are examined. The content of each conference was scrutinized to determine which subjects were presented, how they were presented, and the type and amount of goal-setting accomplished. Ways student-led conferences support 21st Century learning are also explored. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
