Student Sampler: Facts in Brief on North Carolina
North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
This student sampler has been compiled to assist North Carolina students (4th and 8th grade) in their study of North Carolina. It is designed to introduce them to the people, places and events that have shaped North Carolina history. Topics include state symbols, descriptions of the state flag, and seal, the lyrics to the state song, and the history of how the state acquired its nickname. Other topics of interest include the Tar Heel State's economic structure, educational opportunities, and information on the state, and local government agencies. A description of the physical geography includes the location, land forms, regions, as well as maps. Students will also learn about the resources that will help to determine the future of the state of North Carolina. Finally, a listing of recreation and places to visit, and a list of web resources for further research are provided.
