Teaching Vocabulary through Movement: What Are the Outcomes for Children?
Skoning, Stacey N.; Wegner, Theresa; Mason-Williams, Loretta
Journal of Research in Childhood Education, v31 n1 p1-8 2017
Although past literature regarding the use of dance and creative movement to teach content has been supportive, it has been primarily anecdotal in nature. This study provided a systematic approach to evaluating the relationship between the use of dance and creative movement to teach character-trait vocabulary and students' understanding of those traits. Four teachers and 79 students in Grades 2 through 4 participated in this study over an 8-week period. Statistically significant results support the use of dance and movement in intermediate level classrooms.
