At Home with Bats
Miller, Jocelyn; Roberson, Katy
Science and Children, v57 n5 p40-46 Jan 2020
This article describes an unit that was created for first-grade students using both the "Next Generation Science Standards" ("NGSS") and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in a student-centered, problem-based approach. The multifaceted classroom unit combined with a take-home field study provides students with opportunities to observe and explore bat behavior and habitat and make connections with the natural world. The take-home field study was carefully designed to encourage family participation but was also limited in its scope to ensure student involvement and success.
