Using the School Nurse to Support Your Elementary Physical Education Program
Kozub, Mary L.; Kozub, Francis M.
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, v83 n2 p48-52 Feb 2012
The roles of teachers, nurses, and other educational personnel are changing. In the case of the school nurse, the responsibilities have expanded to include health promotion and various other roles outside of the traditional duties of providing first aid, administrating medications, and monitoring the daily health status of students (Broussard, 2004). Physical educators are also experiencing an expanded role as educational programs attempt to adjust to legislative and social changes. The purpose of this article is to encourage collaboration between physical educators and school nurses to increase student learning and address safety concerns in the physical education setting.
