Assistive Technology and Supports Provision: A Selective Review of the Literature and Proposed Areas of Application
Bryant, Brian R.; Bryant, Diane Pedrotty; Shih, Minyi; Seok, Soohwha
Exceptionality, v18 n4 p203-213 2010
Thirty-one research articles were examined to investigate the empirical evidence supporting the use of assistive technology as a type of support for people with intellectual disability in relation to the seven domains of support provision identified in the Supports Intensity Scale. Results indicated that assistive technology devices can be a viable source of support to individuals throughout the lifespan and across a wide range of intellectual levels. Gaps in the research literature are discussed along with implication of findings for practitioners and future research. (Contains 3 notes and 2 tables.)
