This study explores the comprehension and implementation of Internationalisation at Home (IaH) within universities in sending countries, an aspect often overlooked in previous research. Drawing upon the praxiology theory, a practice-focused ethnographic study was conducted at a regional university in China, specifically within a Sino-foreign institute of multimedia design. The study established a practice-based framework, termed 'I-STEP', for the IaH of professional master's education in digital media arts. The framework comprises a dual-tiered structure encompassing critical themes including intentions, studios, teachers, exchanges, and platforms. The proposed framework can be used to describe and elucidate the internationalisation practices within a particular context, assisting institutions in recognising the current landscape and formulating future plans and strategies. Additionally, the potential broader relevance, future refinement, and evaluation of the proposed framework were also discussed.
