Tennis: Course Proposal.
Yeo, David G.
A proposal is presented for a Community College of Philadelphia Life Sciences and Allied Health Services course in tennis. Following a standard cover form, a statement of purpose explains that the course is designed to provide instruction and practice in the basic tennis techniques of the forehand, backhand, serve, volley, and overhead. Next, course goals and a course outline are presented, and corresponding course-level objectives (CLO's) are identified. Finally, the CLO's, related intermediate performance objectives, learning activities, and measures of acceptable performance are presented. The four CLO's stipulate that the student will: (1) analyze and perform the major tennis strokes of the serve, forehand, backhand, volley, and overhead; (2) analyze specific aspects of tennis (e.g., tennis equipment and course surfaces); (3) analyze basic information on tennis, its vocabulary, rules, history, and etiquette; and (4) analyze tennis playing strategies. A class progression outline; recommendations regarding text, scheduling, supplies, and equipment; a list of sources for supplies and equipment; exams and assignments; a glossary; an overview of rules and techniques; and guidelines for diagnosing common stroking errors conclude the packet.
