Surrealistic and under 7
Sutley, Jane
Arts & Activities, v151 n4 p28-29 May 2012
Long before children enter school, it is their imagination that informs their play. Their drawing, too, relies heavily on their natural, unfettered ability to portray both the world around them and their own experiences within that world, without the conventional boundaries between "real" and "imaginary." Surrealism then, is an art movement and idea easily understood by young children, who effortlessly accept the reality of dreamlike scenarios. In this article, the author describes how her students created a unique Surrealistic tree based on Salvador Dali's "The Persistence of Memory."
