This handbook synthesizes research on the education of various subpopulations of students who tend to be highly mobile and explores common characteristics and significant differences. It provides a comprehensive array of resources for teachers and schools. Part 1, "Defining Highly Mobile Children and Youth," includes: (1) "Students on the Move"; (2) "Children Living in High Poverty"; (3) "Migratory Children and Youth"; (4) "Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness"; (5) "Children of Military Families"; (6) "Students Experiencing Mobility on a Global Scale"; and (7) "Future Steps." Part 2, "How to Reach and Teach the Highly Mobile Student," includes: (8) "Reaching Highly Mobile Students: What Administrators Can Do" and (9) "Teaching Highly Mobile Students: School and Classroom Strategies." Part 3, "Tools You Can Use," includes appendices containing a complete checklist of interventions and strategies to support highly mobile students, a PowerPoint presentation on the issues for staff development and training, children's literature and activities, and suggested references and resources.
