The Social World of Preadolescents with Mental Retardation: Social Support, Family Environment and Adjustment.
Wenz-Gross, Melodie; Siperstein, Gary N.
Education and Training in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, v31 n3 p177-87 Sep 1996
Social networks, social supports, family environment, and adjustment among 36 preadolescent students with and without mild mental retardation (MMR) were examined. Students with MMR were more likely to turn to family and adults for companionship, while those without MMR generally turned to peers. Those who received greater support experienced fewer adjustment problems. (Author/PB)
