Developmental Phonological Disorders III: Long-Term Speech-Sound Normalization.
Shriberg, Lawrence D.; And Others
Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, v37 n5 p1151-77 Oct 1994
Ten preschool children with developmental phonological disorders were followed for seven years. Analyses characterize the sequence, rates, and error patterns of long-term speech-sound normalization in relation to developmental perspectives. Findings support the hypothesis of a critical period for speech-sound development, with long-term normalization of speech delay reaching a chronological age boundary at 8.5 years. (Author/JDD)
