This manual is a resource book for organizers and leaders and parent groups who want to explore specific strategies to use in helping children combine summer fun with summer learning. The guide contains material necessary to conduct a 1- or 1.5-hour session on how parents can help children enjoy the summer months while they improve their social skills, use reading as a way to grow, and emphasize communication through writing. The guide includes: (1) a leader's guide with presentation notes and a variety of activities for the session; (2) a reproducible written invitation for teachers to send home to parents; (3) handout masters; (4) 25 bookmarks; and (5) information about other products and services that will help foster parent involvement.
