Universal-Diverse Orientation and Precollege Academic Achievement
Singley, Daniel B.; Sedlacek, William E.
Journal of College Student Development, v45 n1 p84-89 Jan-Feb 2004
Studies have shown that college enrollment among students of color is increasing (McTighe Musil, Garcia, Hudgins, Nettles, Sedlacek, & Smith, 1999). In the last decade, enrollment of students of color in higher education has increased by over 48%, including a gain of approximately 15% since 1995 (Harvey, 2002). Although these statistics indicate that more students of color are entering higher education, monitoring enrollment of marginalized groups is only the beginning. To more accurately gauge a campus climate for diversity, attention must be focused on how students experience this increasing diversity.
