Gender Differences among Incoming African-American Freshmen on Academic and Social Expectations.
Kim, Sue H.; Sedlacek, William E.
Journal of the Freshman Year Experience & Students in Transition, v8 n1 p25-37 1996
A survey of incoming African American freshmen (n=212) at a predominantly white institution found gender differences in why students attended college and planned to graduate, expectations about declaring a major and the difficulty of college coursework, and amount of involvement in extracurricular activities and campus groups. Many areas corresponded to noncognitive variables, shown to predict success of nontraditional students. (Author/MSE)
