A preliminary version of an oral proficiency test in English and Spanish for bilingual speakers was revised after analysis of the results of a pilot study in which the item pool was administered to 45 bilingual first-, fifth- and ninth-graders. The development, administration, and scoring of a communicative test and its validation with tests of linguistic and sociolinguistic competence in English and Spanish are reported.
