A nutrition education curriculum, which emphasized the importance of a low-salt, low-fat, and increased complex carbohydrate diet for cardiovascular health, was pilot tested on third and fourth graders. Long-term outcomes of a school-based program (2,250 third-graders in 31 schools) were compared with an equivalent home-based program (1,000 families) involving parents.
