Family Literacy Programs Training Manual.
Padak, Nancy; Cook, Dale
This booklet contains nine 1-hour training sessions related to the components of family literacy programs. Each session may stand alone or be used in combination with any other. This provides trainers with the flexibility to base workshops on participants' needs and interests. Titles for the sessions include: (1) the process of literacy learning; (2) emerging literacy; (3) environments for literacy learning; (4) children's literature; (5) promoting reading fluency; (6) environmental print; (7) promoting writing growth; (8) language experience activities; and (9) reading reasoning activities. The following detailed plans are included in this manual: (1) goals for the session; (2) plans for implementation; (3) handouts and activities for participants; and (4) sources for further learning. All sessions feature active involvement and time for participants to share their ideas with one another. The concluding portion of this manual contains two bibliographies, one on parents and reading (29 entries) and the other on family literacy programs (12 entries). A sample evaluation form is found in the concluding portion of the manual. (NLA)
