Technology and Media Services. Discretionary Projects Supported by the Office of Special Education Programs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Fiscal Year 2001.
Orkwis, Ray; DeCarme, Judi; Glover, Jeanne
This book is a directory that describes about 1,100 discretionary grants and contracts supported by the Research to Practice Division of the Office of Special Education Programs. The projects are grouped into sections representing the seven program areas of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Amendments (1997), Part D. This fourth volume of four describes projects concerned with technology and media services. These projects are intended to: (1) support educational media activities designed to be of educational value to children with disabilities; (2) provide video descriptions, open captioning, or closed captioning of television programs, videos, or educational materials; (3) distribute captioned videos or educational materials; (4) provide free educational materials, including textbooks, in accessible media for students who are visually impaired and print-disabled in elementary, secondary, postsecondary, and graduate schools; and (5) provide cultural experiences through appropriate nonprofit organizations, such as the National Theater of the Deaf. The projects are grouped by funding competitions and include grant number, title, project director, beginning and ending dates, and contact information. An abstract describes the project's purpose, proposed method, and proposed products. Four indexes are provided: a project director index, an organization index, a state index, and a subject index.
